GMB25: Voices from the Private Care Branch at Congress

Earlier this month, members of the GMB Private Care Branch attended the 2025 GMB Union Congress – a gathering that brings together activists, delegates, and trade unionists from across the UK to shape the direction of our union.

One of our branch members, Binh, shared the following reflection:

“Attending the GMB Union Congress was a truly empowering experience. It was inspiring to be surrounded by passionate individuals who are committed to improving workers’ rights and making real change happen. The congress was not just about policy – it was about people, their stories, and the shared goal of fighting for better pay, equal pay, improved conditions, and equality in the workplace. What stood out the most was how every member had the chance to be heard.
Being part of such a large, unified group reminded me of the strength we have when we stand together. The collective spirit and solidarity at the congress were both motivating and uplifting. I left the congress with a deeper understanding of the challenges facing different sectors, and the innovative ways unions are tackling them. The discussions, workshops, and debates sparked new ideas and gave me fresh perspectives. It reinforced why being part of a union matters.
Thank you the Private Care Branch of GMB Scotland for giving me a wonderful opportunity to attend this year’s congress. I am greatly appreciated.”

Her words perfectly sum up the purpose and power of Congress – to bring people together, raise voices, and shape real change.

As a branch, we’re proud to have had strong representation at this year’s event. From care sector motions to equality debates, our members were active in speaking up for the issues that matter most to frontline workers.

If you’d like to get involved or find out more about becoming a delegate at future GMB events, speak to your branch officers – we’re always keen to amplify the voices of care workers across Scotland.
